Officials say that about one ton of volcanic material is taken away from the beaches of Lanzarote island by tourists every year. Similarly, tourists take a ton of sand with them every month from the famous “Popcorn Beach” of Fuerteventura. Many times soil, stones and rocks were confiscated, but no action was taken against the tourists. For the first time, a decision has been taken to impose such strictness. Now, if anyone tries to collect rocks, stones and soil from the beaches, a fine ranging from Rs 13,478 to Rs 2.69 lakh will be imposed on him.
