Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) will start B.Sc. (Bachelor of Science) course in Mathematics. IIT Madras aims to prepare at least 500 mathematics teachers per year. According to the list released by the National Institutional Ranking Framework of the Union Ministry of Education, IIT Madras on Monday secured first place in every category for the sixth consecutive year. It also secured first place in the ‘Engineering’ category for the ninth consecutive year.
IIT-M ranks second in research
IIT-M secured the top second position in the research institute category. Expressing gratitude to 11,000 students, faculty members and teachers for securing the top position in the NIRF list, IIT-M Director V. Kamakoti said that the institute has been selected on the basis of various parameters, including the percentage of graduates every year and the number of students completing PhD every year.
Kamakoti told media persons, “We are very happy to have secured first position in every category for the sixth consecutive year and in ‘Engineering’ for the ninth consecutive year. I thank the students, staff, alumni, Tamil Nadu government, central government and various ministries. We focus on giving what this country needs in the field of education. We thank all the stakeholders.”
Emphasis on Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics
‘He said that for the last two years, the institute has been focusing on courses like medical science, artificial intelligence and data analytics. He said that with the start of the program to include students who have performed brilliantly in sports under the Sports Excellence Campaign, five students who are national champions in different sports have got the opportunity to study in the institute.
500 maths teachers every year
“Such initiatives have indirectly been a reason for us achieving the top rank,” Kamakoti said. “We are also planning to introduce Mathematics and B.Ed. courses in the future. Our target is to train at least 500 teachers in Mathematics every year,” he added.
