Heat Wave Alert: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert regarding heat wave in Telangana. In view of this, the state government has also issued a health advisory to the people to take precautions. The maximum temperature in the state is expected to reach 43 degrees Celsius and dry weather is expected.

In view of the possibility of extreme heat in Mumbai, Maharashtra, the local body has set up cold rooms. An official release issued in Telangana on Friday (April 5) said that in view of the heat wave alert, the state health department issued an advisory to the people to avoid going out in the sun, especially between 12 noon and 3 pm.
The department said people should avoid consuming alcohol, tea, coffee and carbonated soft drinks or beverages containing sugar, as these can lead to loss of excess body fluids or stomach cramps. According to IMD, there is a possibility of heat wave in different areas of Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet and Jogulamba Gadwal districts of Telangana on Saturday (April 6).

In view of the possibility of extreme heat in Mumbai, the local body has installed cold rooms and related medicines for the treatment of heat stroke have been made available in all hospitals and health centres. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said that it has installed ACs in 103 Hindu Hridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Aapla Dawakhana (Public Dispensary).
Mumbai Municipal Corporation said, “14 major hospitals, general hospitals and medical colleges will have two beds each in the cold rooms created for the treatment of patients affected by heat wave.” Medical officers and staff have been trained for prevention.
A senior official said, “April and May are comparatively hotter and hence there is a risk of heat stroke. The local body is focusing on creating awareness about the precautions to be taken to avoid heatstroke.
