No Rest for Rohit Sharma in West Indies Test Series: Team India will go on West Indies tour next month for two Tests, three ODIs and five match T20 series. The Test series between India and West Indies will start from July 12. Regular captain Rohit Sharma will be available for selection in the Test series.
Earlier it was being claimed in many media reports that many senior players including Rohit Sharma would be rested in the Test series against West Indies. It was being said that Rohit would be rested and someone else would lead the team in his place. However, now a senior BCCI official has put a brake on these reports.
Rahul, Bumrah and Iyer will miss the series
Injured KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah and Shreyas Iyer will not be able to take part in the series against West Indies. However, Cheteshwar Pujara is also expected to be dropped. A senior BCCI official told InsideSport, “Rohit Sharma is fit and available for selection. He got a good break. So, there is no worry about workload management. He will lead in the West Indies series.”
Sarfaraz and Mukesh will get a chance
Mumbai’s Sarfaraz Khan, who has consistently performed brilliantly in domestic cricket, may get a chance in the Test series against the West Indies. Apart from Sarfaraz, Mukesh Kumar can also join Team India for the two-match Test series. Although, Mukesh has joined the team earlier also, but is yet to make his debut.
Hardik Pandya may return to the Test team
The selectors are planning to bring back star all-rounder Hardik Pandya to the Test team. However, its final decision will remain on Hardik. The thing to be seen will be whether Hardik considers himself fit enough to play Test cricket or not. At the same time, fast bowlers Mohammad Shami and Mohammad Siraj can be rested in the Test series against West Indies.
