India China Agreement: China’s Defense Ministry said on Thursday (26 December 2024) that the armies of China and India are “comprehensively and effectively” implementing the agreement to end the standoff in eastern Ladakh and making “steady progress”. A Chinese defense spokesperson said, “At present, the armies of China and India are comprehensively and effectively implementing the border agreements between the two sides and have made steady progress.”

He said that in recent times, based on the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, China and India have maintained constant contact on the border situation through diplomatic and military means and have achieved considerable progress. Following the agreement between India and China on October 21, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met here and held wide-ranging talks on the implementation of the agreement and restoration of relations.

The decision to revive the Special Representative dialogue mechanism was taken in the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Kazan, Russia in October 2024. Colonel Zhang said that bringing China-India relations on the right track is necessary to fulfill the interests of the people of both the countries.

He said, “The Chinese military is willing to work together with the Indian side to sincerely implement the important consensus reached between the two leaders, pursue greater exchanges and contacts, and promote China-India military relations, So that an atmosphere of permanent peace and harmony can be established in the border areas.

The military standoff along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh began in May 2020 and was followed by a deadly clash in the Galwan Valley in June the same year, resulting in severe tension in relations between the two neighbours.
