On Wednesday (December 27), Russia said that it supports India’s aspirations to become a permanent member of the UNSC.

Along with this, Russia praised India’s success in dealing with controversial issues in the G20 summit and called it a true victory of India’s foreign policy. After this came the statement of Sergei Lavrov.

What did Sergei Lavrov say?

“We support India’s candidature to join the UN Security Council as a permanent member,” Sergei Lavrov said after talks with his counterpart S Jaishankar. He further said that the G20 summit held in New Delhi earlier this year was “a true victory of India’s foreign policy, it was a victory of multilateral diplomacy, which was possible to a decisive extent.”

According to the state news agency ‘Tas’, Lavrov said that they discussed the prospects for military-technical cooperation between Russia and India, including joint production of modern weapons.

Lavrov said, ‘Concrete progress has been made in this matter.’ He said that Russia understands India’s initiative and is ready to support it. He said, ‘Under the Make in India programme, goods used for military purposes are to be produced. We are ready to cooperate in this regard.”
