Indian Navy New Decision: The Indian Navy has taken a serious view of the frequent attacks on merchant ships passing through international shipping lanes. Indian Navy Chief Admiral R. Hari Kumar has issued instructions to take all possible action to increase security in the Arabian Sea area and keep a close watch on any suspicious activity, he has also directed to thoroughly investigate suspicious boats to ensure security.

Speaking to ANI, Admiral R. Hari Kumar said, a naval task force consisting of destroyers and frigates has been deployed to conduct maritime security operations and assist merchant ships in case of any incident. He said that the Navy is working closely with the Coast Guard force to investigate new security threats in the Indian Ocean.

The attack took place 400 km away from the Indian coast.

The Indian Navy has taken this step a few days after a drone attack on a merchant ship MV Chem Pluto, 400 km away from the Indian coast. It is noteworthy that this ship along with 21 crew members (20 Indians and one Vietnamese) reached Mumbai port in the Arabian Sea on 26 December under the protection of Coast Guard Ship Vikram.

Steps taken in view of danger

The Navy said in its statement, “In the last few weeks, there has been an increase in maritime security incidents on merchant ships passing through international shipping lanes in the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden and Central/North Arabian Sea. In view of this, these steps are being taken.” .”

The biggest attack took place in the Red Sea in October

Drone and missile attacks by Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels have been carried out on vital Red Sea shipping lanes since the start of the Israel-Hamas war on October 7. After this, MV Chem Pluto was also attacked. It is being told that as long as the war continues between Israel and Hamas, the danger of such attacks will remain.
