‘Indians living in Arabia are contributing to the society on a large scale’, said Saudi Arabian minister


Saudi Arabia has launched a new initiative that aims to develop stronger ties between the local society and Indian and other expatriate communities through promoting quality of life and cultural enrichment. Launching the Global Harmony Initiative here on Wednesday (October 16, 2024) night, Khalid bin Abdul Qadir Al-Ghamdi, Deputy Minister of Media in Saudi Arabia, said, ‘This initiative focuses on the different cultures of expatriates and how they are living in harmony. , will display.’

The Global Harmony Initiative is a part of the country’s quality of life program to achieve objectives under Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. On this occasion, Indian Ambassador Suhail Ijaz Khan and top diplomats of many other countries were present. After the launch of this initiative, Al-Ghamdi said that Indians living in Saudi Arabia are contributing to the Saudi society in a big way.

Ejaz Khan said that Indians are the largest expatriate community in Saudi Arabia, whose number is around 26 lakh. He said, ‘The Indian community is growing. In the last one year alone, the number of people of the community has increased by about two lakhs. Ejaz Khan gave many reasons for the increase in numbers.

He said, ‘There are huge economic opportunities because of Vision 2030, but the most important factor is that Indians have a good reputation in this country and this is what motivates people to trust Indian workers more. He said, ‘The profile of Indian workers has also changed in the last few years. Now more and more skilled Indian workers are coming here.’

Ejaz Khan also said that bilateral relations are growing because the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has visited Saudi Arabia twice and Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman also came to India for the G-20 summit. He said that army and naval exercises have also taken place between the two countries.

The ‘Riyadh Season’ running at Al-Suwaidi Park here from 13 to 21 October under the Global Harmony Initiative; The diverse lifestyles of people from different countries and cultures will be displayed. Apart from India, the other countries participating in it are Philippines, Indonesia, Pakistan, Yemen, Sudan, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Bangladesh and Egypt. Various dance troupes, music groups and singers from India have also given performances in Al-Suwaidi Park.

Organizers said that participants from India include musician Himesh Reshammiya, rapper Emiway Bantai and cricketers Umran Malik and S Sreesanth. A separate market has also been established for Indian cuisine, clothes and handicrafts.
