India’s indigenous Twitter KOO has been shut down, many ministers including Virat Kohli used it too

Koo App Closed: India’s indigenous micro-blogging platform KOO was launched to compete with Elon Musk’s micro-blogging platform X (old name Twitter). There was a time when the popularity of this indigenous Twitter grew very fast in India, but now this platform has been closed. The founders of this company themselves announced that due to the failure of partnership talks and high expenditure on technology cost, this social media platform i.e. KOO has been closed.

Why was the app shut down?

Koo app co-founder Mayank Bidawatka announced the closure of the Koo app through a recent post on LinkedIn, saying that he "The possibility of partnership was being explored with several big internet companies, groups and media houses, but these talks did not yield any results." And "Some of them changed their mind at the time of signing the deal."

This update comes after a report by The Morning Context stated that the partnership between Koo and Dailyhunt did not work out. Although the app expanded its presence in Brazil and recorded over 1 million downloads in just 48 hours of launch, it has struggled to gain momentum in the Indian market.

It was launched in 2020

Let us tell you that the Koo app was launched in 2020, but this app got popularity in 2021 when the Government of India got into a tussle with Twitter over removing a post from X (old name Twitter). The Koo app benefited from that dispute between the Government of India and Twitter and after that not only was this app promoted by the government, but many Union Ministers also used it and appealed to the people to use this app."text-align: justify;">At one time, the Koo app became very popular. The number of daily active users in this app reached 21 lakh and the number of monthly active users reached 1 crore. Apart from this, more than 9000 VIP people also had accounts on this platform.

Since then, many ministers as well as Bollywood stars and cricketers have opened their accounts on this app and started using it. However, with time, the popularity and discussions of the Koo app started decreasing and when Elon Musk bought Twitter, Indian users once again decided to keep their trust in Twitter.
