Mother and son died after falling into the Ghazipur drain. In this case, the Delhi Development Authority will now give a compensation of Rs 20 lakh to their family. This order has been given by the Delhi High Court to the Delhi Development Authority.

The Delhi High Court on Thursday directed the DDA to pay a compensation of Rs 20 lakh to the legal heirs of the mother and son who died after falling into the Ghazipur drain in July. The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) lawyer initially said that he was ready to pay Rs 15 lakh as compensation to the victim’s family, but the bench of Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela called it ideal and asked to pay Rs 20 lakh.
The DDA counsel said that without prejudice to its rights and disputes and without admitting any liability on its part, as a humanitarian gesture it is willing to pay Rs 20 lakh to the legal heirs of the deceased Tanuja and Priyansh. The court was hearing a PIL filed by Jhunnu Lal Shrivastava, a resident of Mayur Vihar Phase 3, seeking action against the contractor and DDA officials for their alleged negligence which led to the death of the woman and her three-year-old son.
