Microsoft AI: Microsoft is progressing very fast in the matter of AI services. Recently, Microsoft had announced the release of its AI service Microsoft Copilot Pro for all users around the world and now Intel has made a new announcement that Copilot will soon start working in Microsoft PCs also. This means that users will now get the facility of AI service by default in their laptops.
What is Microsoft Copilot Service?
Talking about Microsoft Copilot service, it is an AI assistant created by Microsoft, which can easily do many tasks for the users like drafting emails, searching information about anything, creating AI images. This is a separate product of Microsoft, but now Intel has announced that they will include this AI assistant of Microsoft in PC functions.
Intel recently told Tom’s Hardware that Copilot AI will soon run natively on PCs. The company revealed that to do this, next generation PCs i.e. laptops will need chips with faster Neural Processing Unit (NPS).
It is said that the next generation AI PC has Neural Processing Units (NPS) with 40 TOP (trillion operations per second) power. This is much more than any processor available in the market and hence laptops made on this basis are more powerful than other laptops.
Processors with the fastest NPU speed
Let us tell you that Apple’s M3 chipset has the fastest NPU speed with 18 TOPs. Next comes the AMD Ryzen 8040 and 7040 laptop chips, which come with 16 and 10 TOPs respectively. Intel has a Meteor Lake laptop chip that reaches the top 10. This is why despite having some powerful chips, they are not ready to run AI locally.
However, Qualcomm may introduce a processor that is almost capable of running Copilot through the Snapdragon X Elite chip. The chip has 45 TOPs, which is included in the top category.
It is worth noting that till now some chip making companies are not even close to the numbers mentioned above in terms of TOP, but they are working on some powerful AI chips. Intel’s Lunar Lake chips may be launched next year, whose NPU speed is three times more than the current speed. Intel has also recently launched its AI PC development kit based on ASUS NUC Pro, which includes the Meteor Lake SoC.
AI tools will be available in next generation laptop
For these reasons, we are expecting that next generation PCs and laptops will soon be able to run on-device AI tools. This is why Intel has announced to make Microsoft Copilot available locally in PC soon. However, it is possible that all the functions of Microsoft Copilot may not work in it. Some special features of Copilot will work locally on Intel laptops, but for other features the device may have to depend on the cloud.
According to the report, Microsoft has insisted on chip manufacturers like Intel that Copilot should run on NPU instead of GPU because it has less impact on battery life and the battery of users’ devices works well for a long time. Now it remains to be seen how much benefit the collaboration between Microsoft and Intel creates for the users regarding AI features.
