According to media reports, people are not able to access even popular social media platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.

According to sources, the Government of Pakistan has implemented a “firewall”, which has been installed to monitor anti-national content on social media. However, this move has severely affected the internet speed. Instead of taking these problems seriously, the government described them as a “blown out issue”.

Downdetector has also confirmed that disruptions were observed in services like WhatsApp, Gmail, Instagram and TikTok from 11 am on December 1. According to the report of Express Tribune, people engaged in communication and social media related work are also facing this problem.
Had appealed to Elon Musk
Internet outage has become a common problem in Pakistan. Internet and mobile services were temporarily shut down during a political demonstration in Islamabad in November. At that time many people had appealed to Elon Musk to start Starlink service, but at present this service is not available there. According to another report, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced extension of Virtual Private Network (VPN) registration deadline. However, it was not made clear what the new deadline would be.
