The investigation of the case of suicide of a nursing student in Hindu Medical College due to ragging was handed over to CO City on Thursday. Amidst all this, the college administration dismissed the allegations of ragging and talked to the family members of the deceased and the accused student. Hostel warden Aradhana Dubey and college administrator Vivek Saxena refused to say anything.

The body of Saloni Pushkar, a third year General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) student from Rampur Hussain Baksh village in Bahraich district, was found hanging from a noose in the hostel of Hind Medical College located in Safedabad on July 27. The police was considering it a normal suicide. Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Saloni’s mother Gomti Devi filed a complaint in the city police station alleging that Saloni committed suicide after being fed up with the ragging of her roommate senior student.

Before the incident, she had complained about this to the principal and the head of the department, but no one paid attention. On this, the police registered a case against the accused Varsha Yadav under sections of abetment to suicide and Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Atrocities Prevention Act.

Starting the investigation on Thursday, CO City Jagat Kanaujia asked the college administration for the call details of both the students, footage of CCTV cameras around their rooms and the campus. Saloni’s family members were called from Bahraich for statement. The CO said that classmates will also be talked to.

So Saloni was not coming to class for six months

Nursing principal Gangeshwari said that Saloni was doing internship after completing her third year of studies. She had not been attending classes for the past six months. She was on duty in the hospital. She had never complained about ragging.

Mother said…just want justice

Saloni’s mother Gomti Devi told in a conversation that the whole family is in shock due to the incident. They just want justice. When brother Rahul was contacted on phone, he said that everyone is very upset… and disconnected the call.

And settlement in one month old ragging case

About a month ago, Dr. Shivam Shankar and Uttam Kumar had filed a case against their seniors accusing them of ragging and mob lynching. The allegation was that they were not able to go to college for about a week due to harassment. City Kotwal Ajay Kumar Tripathi said that both the parties have reached a settlement.
