IPL 2023 New Rules Playing 11 Selection After Toss DRS On Wide And No Balls And Impact Player

IPL New Rules: IPL 2023 This time due to three new rules, a lot is going to be seen changed. This time the teams will be able to select playing-11 after the toss, the scope of DRS will also be increased and the most important thing is that the teams will be able to use the impact player. These three rules are such that the interestingness of IPL matches will increase. BCCI has sent mail to all the franchises regarding these three rules.

1. Selection of playing-11 after the toss
Till now it has always happened in cricket that teams have to choose playing-11 even before the toss, but this time in IPL teams will be able to share playing-11 after the toss. This rule was implemented in the recently held SA20. Under this rule, the captain of both the teams will have two sheets. One sheet will have the names of the playing-11 in the position of batting first and the other sheet will have the names of the playing-11 in the position of bowling first. The names of 5-5 substitutes will also be written in both these sheets, which can be used as impact players. After the toss, both the captains will exchange their playing-11.

2. The scope of DRS will increase
This time in IPL, teams will also be able to take DRS on decisions related to wide and no ball by the umpire. Earlier DRS was taken only on out or not out decisions. Now if a batsman feels that the ball was wide or no-ball and the umpire has considered the ball as valid, then the batsman can challenge the decision of the umpire. Similarly, if the bowling team feels that the ball was not a wide or a no-ball but the umpire has disallowed the ball, then the bowling team will also be able to challenge the umpire’s decision. However, there has been no increase in the number of DRS available to the teams per innings. That is, only from the available DRS, teams will have to take the risk of taking DRS on decisions related to wide and no-ball.

3. Impact Player
This can prove to be the game changer rule of this season of IPL. Under this rule, teams can replace one of their players with another player in the middle of the match. A team will be allowed to bring only one impact player in a match. At the time of the toss, the captain will give the names of 5 substitute players in addition to the playing-11 and one of these players will be able to use the captain as an impact player. To bring the impact player on the field, the captain will have to inform either the field umpire or the fourth umpire.
