Iran Israel Conflict: Citing a spokesman for Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization, government media said that all flights from Iran’s airports have been canceled as of 6 am on Monday. The spokesperson said without giving any details that the flights had been stopped due to “operational restrictions”.
According to the IRNA state news agency, due to these restrictions, “flights at some airports in the country will be canceled from 21:00 tonight (1730 GMT), Sunday, October 6, until 6:00 am tomorrow, October 7 .” This decision has been taken amid increased tension between Iran and Israel after missile attacks on Israel by Tehran last week.
Is Iran afraid of Israel?
Iran fired about 200 missiles on Tuesday, which is its second direct attack on Israel this year. This has been described as revenge for the killing of militant leaders aligned with Iran and a senior commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards. Israel has vowed to retaliate, although it has not yet clarified when and how it will respond.
After the missile attack, Iranian airspace was closed for about two days on Tuesday night, but flights resumed on Thursday morning. Security concerns were cited as the reason for the temporary closure of both domestic and international flights.
Why is Iran afraid of Israel?
The European Union Aviation Safety Agency has advised airlines to avoid Iranian airspace until October 31 due to the unstable conditions, and the advisory is under review. Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad on Sunday visited Kharg Island, home to the country’s largest oil export terminal, amid concerns of possible Israeli attacks on Iran’s energy infrastructure.
According to the oil ministry’s news agency Shana, Paknejad met with a senior commander of the Revolutionary Guards Navy to discuss the security of the country’s major oil and gas facilities. Israel has not ruled out the possibility of targeting Iran’s oil facilities in retaliation.
