Protest against women’s dress code increases in Iran

In fact, in recent times, opposition to the dress code by women has increased in Iran. After the 1979 revolution, wearing hijab was made mandatory for women in Iran. These restrictions gave rise to several movements by activists and ordinary citizens that challenge the mandatory hijab. The death of Mahsa Amini, a young Iranian woman, in the custody of morality police in September 2022 led to large-scale protests against hijab bans across the country, which were suppressed by the government. Amini was arrested for not wearing hijab as per government standards. The government claimed that she suffered a heart attack at a police station, collapsed and fell into a coma before being taken to hospital. However, witnesses present there, including the women detained with Amini, said that she was badly beaten and died due to police brutality.
