Alcohol

The number of people drinking alcohol is continuously increasing. At the same time, the consumption of alcohol at the global level has increased compared to before. But everyone knows that alcohol is harmful for health. Today we will tell you about a research in which more than 1 lakh people were included.
What does research say about alcohol

Scientists have done research for 12 years on drinking alcohol in small quantities every day. In this research, many facts related to drinking alcohol in small quantities have come to light. Researchers have said in a study that drinking less alcohol is one of the reasons behind the increase in cancer deaths in people over 60 years of age in Britain. However, the risk has been found to be higher in those who already had health problems.

Research on more than 1 lakh people

Researchers monitored 1,35,103 adults aged 60 years and above for 12 years. In this study, researchers found that there is no reduction in deaths due to heart disease in those who drink alcohol in small quantities as compared to those who drink occasionally. In the study, drinking a little peg has been considered as an average intake of alcohol up to 20 grams per day for men and 10 grams per day for women. However, in the United States, a standard drink contains 14 grams of alcohol.

Alcohol consumption increased

Dr. Rosario Ortola, Assistant Professor of Preventive Medicine and Public Health at the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid and lead author of the paper, said that the research has not found anything that people who drink less alcohol have a lower mortality rate.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, alcohol use has increased in the United States. At the same time, deaths due to excessive drinking have increased by about 30 percent between 2016-2017 and 2020-2021.

Less alcohol is also dangerous

The study found that senior citizens who drink less alcohol have a higher risk of death due to health-related reasons. But those who drink mostly wine or drink alcohol only during meals have a lower risk of death. Those who drink wine have a lower risk of death, especially due to cancer. According to research, in simple terms, 20 to 40 grams of alcohol per day for men and 10 to 20 grams for women is considered a moderate amount. But even less consumption of alcohol increases the risk of death.
