India-Israel Relations: A PIL was filed in the Supreme Court on Wednesday (September 4), stating that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi The central government led by PM Modi should be directed to stop the supply of arms and other military equipment to Israel. The petition states that the licenses of all the Indian companies which are supplying arms to Israel should be cancelled. Israel is fighting a war with Hamas in Gaza, in which thousands of people have died. Keeping this in mind, the petition has been filed.
The PIL demanding to stop the supply of weapons has been filed by senior lawyer Prashant Bhushan. It states, “India follows various international laws and treaties, under which India cannot supply military weapons to countries guilty of war crimes. In such a situation, if any kind of weapons are supplied, they can be used in serious violation of international humanitarian law.” This petition has been filed by 11 people.
India supplied weapons to Israel!
Qatari media house Al Jazeera had claimed in its report in June that India supplied 20 tonnes of rocket engines, 12.5 tonnes of rockets with explosive charges, 1500 kg of explosives and 740 kg of ammunition to Israel. A similar report had come out in February this year, which said that Hermes 900 drones had been supplied to Israel from a company based in Hyderabad. 20 drones have been sent to it. The company from which the supply was made was established by Israel itself.
Daniel Carmon, Israel’s former ambassador to India, claimed in June that India was supplying weapons to his country. Israel had sent weapons to India during the Kargil war in 1999 and now it is doing so for Tel Aviv to repay the debt. However, there was no official statement from India regarding the supply of weapons and the statement of the Israeli ambassador. India has also sent goods to help the people in Gaza amid the war.
Demand for ceasefire raised in Israel
Hamas has held Israeli citizens hostage in Gaza. More than 40,000 Palestinians have died due to the ongoing war in Gaza. Amidst the continuous loss of lives, there is a demand for ceasefire across the world. Meanwhile, people in Israel have also come out on the streets demanding ceasefire. The bodies of six more Israelis held hostage in Gaza have been found, after which thousands of people have taken to the streets to protest to put pressure on the government for a ceasefire.
