Lebanon’s PM blames Israel

Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati accused Israel of being behind the Beirut explosion. The Lebanese PM said, “The purpose of the assassination of Saleh Arouri is to drag Lebanon into the ongoing attacks in the southern parts of the country.”

Who was Saleh Arouri?

According to Al Jazeera’s report, Saleh Arouri was the deputy head of Hamas’ political bureau and one of the founders of the Qassam Brigades, the Palestinian group’s armed wing. He was born in 1966 in Ramallah in the occupied West Bank. Saleh Arouri was living in exile in Lebanon for a long time after spending 15 years in an Israeli prison.

In October last year, the Israeli army demolished his house near Ramallah. The US government had designated him as a global terrorist in 2015 and had announced a reward of $5 million for anyone providing information about him.

Hamas office is in Beirut

Hezbollah and Palestinian groups are active in the southern area of ​​Beirut. Hamas also has its office there. According to Aljazeera’s report, Hezbollah had already warned Israel about the killings in Lebanon.

Last year, when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu threatened Palestinian leaders in Lebanon, Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah had said that a strong reaction would be given to the killing of any Lebanese, Palestinian, Iranian or Syrian person on Lebanese soil.
