Israel-Hamas war: US President Joe Biden said Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu’s approach to the war in Gaza is ‘hurting Israel more than helping it’. He said this during an interview on Saturday (March 9, 2024). Joe Biden also raised questions on the deaths of more than 30 thousand people in Gaza during this period.
According to the report of English news channel NDTV, America has now changed its tone on the Israel-Hamas war. The American President’s impatience with his Israeli counterpart is increasing. Joe Biden made contradictory comments on the question of ‘red line’ on Israel’s aggressive attack on Rafah city in southern Gaza. He said- Netanyahu has the right to defend Israel, he has the right to continue pursuing Hamas, but he should also pay attention to the deaths of innocent people.
Biden spoke on Iron Dome
Joe Biden further said that the lives of 1.5 million out of 2.4 million people are in danger due to Israel’s military action on Gaza’s Rafah city. He raised questions on this action of Israel. However, reiterating the point, Biden said, “I am never going to leave Israel. Israel’s defense is still important.” Israel must have an Iron Dome (air defense system) capability. There is no red line on it, but ‘you cannot kill more than 30,000 Palestinians.’
Death toll in Israel-Hamas war
According to official figures, 1160 people, most of whom were civilians, were killed in the attack by Hamas on Israel on October 7. Hamas took about 250 people hostage, 99 of whom Israel believes survive in Gaza. Israeli retaliatory strikes in Hamas-controlled Gaza have killed more than 30,800 people, mostly women and children, according to Gaza’s health ministry.
