Israeli Commanders’ Stance On Israel-Hamas War Softens – Report

Israel-Hamas war: Israel and Hamas have been at war in Gaza for almost 100 days after the rocket attack on Israel by the Palestinian extremist group. Israel began a military response after the Palestinian attack, which has resulted in the loss of about 24,000 Palestinian lives so far.

According to a New York Times report, Israel’s limited success has begun to raise doubts among military officials. Some Israel Defense Forces (IDF) officials believe that the dual objectives of freeing the hostages and eliminating Hamas are now mutually incompatible.

IDF captured small part of Gaza Strip- report
The report also claims that Israeli war plans were being monitored since the beginning of the ongoing conflict between the two countries. The IDF currently occupies a small portion of the Gaza Strip, which is less than the areas identified in Israel’s initial plan.

This slower than expected progress has led some IDF commanders to believe that the freedom of more than 100 Israeli hostages from Gaza can only be achieved through diplomatic rather than military measures.

Hostages are in danger of losing their lives – commanders
Speaking on condition of anonymity, four senior IDF military officers told The New York Times that the dual objectives of freeing the hostages and destroying Hamas are now mutually incompatible. Commanders believe that efforts to completely eliminate Hamas could cost the lives of Israelis held captive in Gaza from October 7, 2023.

“Commanders said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s evasive statements about post-war plans for Gaza were partly responsible for the plight of forces on the battlefield,” the report said. The New York Times also said that when the Israeli Army was asked about the comments of these commanders, they refused to respond.

17 lakh people were displaced after the war- report
The Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip has displaced more than 1.7 million people, according to the United Nations Palestinian Refugee Agency (UNRWA), following a deadly attack by Hamas militants in southern Israel. This number is approximately 75% of the population of Gaza.

On the other hand, more than 1,400 Israeli people were also killed, but Israel continues to attack the Gaza Strip as more than 100 Israeli hostages are still with Hamas terrorists.
