Israeli Embassy Facebook Post On Quran: The Israeli Embassy has removed the objectionable post from Facebook after the intervention of the Singapore government, in which an attempt was made to make a political point by mentioning ‘Quran’. This post was posted on the Facebook page on Sunday (24 March).
Law and Home Affairs Minister K Shanmugam called it a “staggering attempt to rewrite history” and said the post was “insensitive, inappropriate and completely unacceptable as it could harm security and harmony in Singapore.”
Israeli Embassy had to remove Facebook post
“The Home Ministry spoke with the External Affairs Ministry yesterday (Sunday) and said that the embassy has to immediately remove the post, and it removed it,” ‘Today’ newspaper quoted the minister as saying.
Earlier on Monday, External Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishnan said, “It is highly inappropriate to reference a religious text to make a political point.” We made this clear to the embassy, which has removed the post.
Claim in the post – Israel is mentioned in the Quran
The post on the Facebook page of the Israeli Embassy in Singapore said, “Israel is mentioned 43 times in the Quran. On the other hand, Palestine is not mentioned even once.
The post said that archaeological evidence such as maps, documents and coins demonstrate that the Jewish people are the original inhabitants of Israel. Shanmugam said, “This post is a surprising attempt to rewrite history. The person writing the post should look at UN resolutions and, before rewriting history, see whether Israel’s actions in the last few decades have been in accordance with international law.
Meanwhile, Social and Family Development Minister and Minister in-charge of Muslim Affairs Masagos Zulkifli said in a Facebook post that he was also deeply hurt by the said post.
