Physical inactivity is the fourth biggest cause of death worldwide. Different studies have found that physical inactivity has a strong association with chronic diseases and disabilities. In a recently revealed research, it has been predicted that if people do not remain physically active, then by the year 2030, about 500 million new patients suffering from long-lasting major diseases can appear at the global level. Cycling, walking or playing your favorite sport is one of the easiest and most effective ways to stay active.
Regular involvement in these activities helps in prevention and cure of many chronic diseases. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that children and adolescents between the ages of 5 and 17 should exercise for at least 60 minutes a day. In addition to vigorous aerobic activities for at least 3 days, exercises that make muscles and bones strong must be included. Apart from this, children and adolescents should not be allowed to spend more than two hours daily on television, computer, smartphone.
Girls remained more inactive
According to the PTI report, the purpose of these measures is not only to keep children physically and mentally healthy, but also to improve their intellectual ability. In the year 2016, 81 percent of children aged 11 to 17 were considered physically inactive all over the world. Girls were more inactive than boys. The Corona epidemic worsened the situation further. Addressing physical inactivity among children and adolescents has become a worldwide priority.
Impact of the Corona Pandemic
Corona epidemic has worked to increase physical inactivity among children and adolescents. More than 90 percent of the experts said that Corona has had a bad effect on children’s activism, playing and physical activity. To prevent the spread of the epidemic, a lockdown was imposed, during which even schools and parks had to be closed. This affected the physical activity of the children. A study found that 30 days after Covid restrictions were imposed, people’s daily steps decreased by 27.3 percent. This study was done in 187 countries.
