Jalpaiguri Rape Case: A Class 10 girl student was raped and murdered on New Yearâs Eve in West Bengalâs Jalpaiguri district. According to the police complaint, the girl student was allegedly sexually assaulted and murdered at her house in Bala Para on the night of 31 December, when her parents had gone out.
Protests have started there on Sunday after the death of the girl student. A lot of anger is being seen among the people. The matter came to light when the victimâs father lodged an FIR against the five youths, after which the local people created ruckus and vandalized the houses of the accused youths.

The victimâs father has said in his complaint to the police that a criminal had informed him about his daughterâs death over the phone. The victimâs father told that when he reached home, his daughterâs body was lying on the floor and there were injury marks.

The victimâs father told that these boys often harassed his daughter. Used to taunt him. He had been after his daughter for a long time. The father has filed an FIR against him and wants him punished.

As soon as the news spread, hundreds of local people raided the houses of the five accused and ransacked their houses. A heavy police force led by the IC of Kotwali police station reached the spot and the situation was brought under control. A large section of the local people also went to demonstrate inside the Kotwali police station premises demanding the arrest and punishment of the alleged criminals.
Jalpaiguri SP Biswajit Mahto said, âWe have started the investigation on the basis of the FIR registered. We can ascertain the cause of death only after getting the postmortem report.â Significantly, till now the police have taken one accused into their custody and he has also been presented in the Jalpaiguri court.
