Ramban Land Sink: More than 50 houses, four power towers were damaged and an important road was destroyed due to land subsidence in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir. The situation worsened when cracks started appearing in houses and ground subsidence in Pernot village led to the loss of vital road connectivity between Gool and Ramban.
This incident happened in Pernot village, located five kilometers from the district headquarters. Deputy Commissioner Baseer-ul-Haq Chaudhary visited the affected area on Friday (April 26) morning. Many families in the area were forced to move to safer places. Geology experts have been called in to find out the cause behind the land subsidence, while a team of district officials has been deployed to monitor rehabilitation efforts and restoration of services.
What does the administration say?
Deputy Commissioner Choudhary assured, “The ground is continuously sinking, but our immediate focus is on restoring essential services like road access and electricity. “We are actively distributing tents and other essentials and organizing medical camps to assist the victims.” Local people along with teams of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) helped the affected persons in transferring their belongings from damaged houses.
What did Jitendra Singh say?
Emphasizing on the ongoing relief efforts, Union Minister Jitendra Singh said that he will stand with the affected people. He said, “I am in constant touch with Deputy Commissioner Baseer-ul-Haq Choudhary regarding the relief work after the unfortunate landslide in Pernot village.”
He further said, “All necessary arrangements are being made to provide facilities like food, health care, tents, beds etc. About 350 affected persons are being rehabilitated and all necessary arrangements are being made. “Immediate relief was provided.”
A similar incident happened last year also
A similar incident had taken place in February last year when road connectivity between Gool and Ramban was severed due to land subsidence in Duksar Dalwa village of Sangaldan area and 16 houses were destroyed.
