Japan Earthquake: The earthquake that occurred in Japan amidst the New Year celebrations has put fear in the minds of 12.5 crore people of the country. The earthquake has caused massive destruction. According to local officials, at least 6 people have died. A tsunami warning was issued after the earthquake but now the warning was limited to advisories only. A tsunami of more than 1.2 meters high was recorded at Wajima Port in Ishikawa.
According to Japanese media reports, many people are still missing across the country, so it is feared that the death toll may increase. Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said late on Monday night that due to road closures, it was proving difficult for search and rescue teams to reach the most affected areas. US President Joe Biden said that he will provide all possible help to Japan.
Biden said, “Being close partners, America and Japan have a very deep friendship, which unites our people. We are with the Japanese people in such difficult situations.”
power crisis
The Japanese government had ordered about 97 thousand people from 9 provinces to evacuate the area. People had to take shelter in sports complexes and gyms. According to the website of Hokuriku Electric Power, about 33 thousand houses in Ishikawa Prefecture were without electricity on Tuesday morning.
What is the condition of the nuclear power plant?
Japan’s nuclear power plants are at greatest risk after the earthquake. Earlier, due to the tsunami in 2011, the nuclear plant was extensively damaged. Then the entire plant was in danger due to water entering the nuclear reactor. That reactor is cooled with water till today. Billions of liters of water have been spent for this. Once water comes in contact with the reactor, it is kept away from humans and animals, because it contains a lot of radiation. The entire city of Japan was destroyed in the disaster of 2011.
