JNU to Establish Centres for Hindu Studies, Buddhist Studies, Jain Studies


JNU to open 3 new centres for studies: Three new study centres will be opened in Jawaharlal Nehru University. These will be Hindu, Buddhist and Jain study centres. This was approved in the recent Academic Council meeting and now it will start soon. Candidates will be able to get post graduation degree and PhD from these three centres. The university has started preparations in this regard and work will start soon.

It was decided in the meeting of the Academic Council that these three centres will be started from the new academic session 2025-26. Their names are – Centre for Hindu Studies, Centre for Buddhist Studies and Centre for Jain Studies.

Admission to the courses offered by these three centres will be through entrance examination. For this, candidates will have to pass the Common University Entrance Test i.e. CUET. CUET score will be the basis for JNU admission.

All three centres will be established under the School of Sanskrit and Indic Studies. In this regard, the proposal was approved in the Executive Council meeting of Jawaharlal Nehru University on 29 May. JNU had set up a committee whose job was to work on how to implement the National Education Policy 2020 and the Indian Knowledge System in the university.

Regarding this, JNU VC says that this step will take us towards modernity along with tradition. It will tell the difference between myth and reality and will take a new step towards the draft of developed India.

The university also informed that all the concerned departments and officials have been informed about this. This is an effort of the university towards fulfilling the vision of NEP 2020 where traditional Indian knowledge will be combined with modern academics.

There will be so many seats in the beginning

In this regard, a lot of work is still at the planning level, which is yet to be implemented. However, according to media reports, initially these three centers will have 20 seats each. Later their number can be increased. Advanced study will be conducted in these centers. From the syllabus to the rest of the program outline will be ready soon.
