joe root equals sunil gavaskar 34 test hundreds record but sachin tendulkar hundreds record still far from his reach eng vs sl 2nd test lords

Joe Root Hits 34th Test Century Equals Sunil Gavaskar Record: Joe Root has scored a brilliant century in the second innings of the test match being played between England and Sri Lanka at Lord’s. This is the 34th century of Root’s test career, meaning he has now surpassed Alastair Cook to become the batsman who has scored the most centuries in test cricket for England. But with this he has equaled many legendary players. He has now come at par with Sunil Gavaskar and Brian Lara in terms of centuries. Both of them had scored 34 centuries in test matches.

Gavaskar-Brian Lara match

Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar scored a total of 34 centuries in his 125-match Test career. He reached this figure in 214 innings. On the other hand, West Indies’ great batsman Brian Lara took 232 innings in 131 matches to score 34 centuries. On one hand, Gavaskar scored 10,122 runs in his career, on the other hand, Lara scored a total of 11,953 runs. Joe Root has also scored 34 centuries now and he has achieved this figure in his 265th innings.

How far is he from Sachin Tendulkar?

Talking about current cricketers, Joe Root has become the batsman who has scored the most centuries in Test matches. But he is still far behind Sachin Tendulkar, one of the greatest players of cricket. Tendulkar played 200 Test matches in his career, in which he has 51 centuries in 329 innings. Joe Root is still 17 centuries away from Tendulkar in the list of most centuries.

But speculations are being made that Joe Root can overtake him not in terms of centuries but in the list of runs in Test career. Root currently has 12,377 runs in his Test career and he is currently 3,544 runs behind Sachin Tendulkar’s 15,921 runs.
