Supreme Court On Joshimath Sinking: The Supreme Court has refused to hear immediately on the petition filed regarding cracks in the houses of Joshimath in Uttarakhand. The court says that there is no need to come to the court for such matters. Democratically elected institutions are already working on this. The matter will be heard on January 16.

This petition was filed on behalf of Swami Avimukteshwaranand. A bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha had asked to mention this petition on the previous day (January 9). Advocate Parmeshwar Nath Mishra has raised the demand for hearing in the matter at the earliest.

What is said in the petition?

It has been said in the petition that whatever is happening today in Joshimath is happening due to mining, construction of big projects and the blasts being done for it. Landslide is happening in the city for a long time but it is being ignored. in this There has been a demand to declare the current incidents of landslides, ground subsidence, ground bursting and cracks in land and properties as a national disaster and to direct the National Disaster Management Authority.

The petition has sought immediate financial assistance and compensation to those people of Uttarakhand who have lost their homes. It further states that the day is being observed in the state of Uttarakhand today due to massive human interference in the form of industrialization, urbanization and destruction of natural resources by the central and state government.

How is the situation in Joshimath

In Joshimath, there are 678 houses in nine wards which have cracks. In view of security, two hotels have been closed under the Disaster Management Act. People are being shifted to safer places. People are being forced to leave their decades old homes.
