Doda Land Sun Residence: Joshimath-like crisis has also come to the fore in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir. The land of a village in the district is sinking, due to which cracks are continuously appearing in the buildings. Families are being removed from their homes and sent to safer places. So far 19 houses, 1 mosque and 1 madrassa have been evacuated. There is an atmosphere of panic among the residents.
In Nai Basti village of Thathri area, located 35 km from Doda town on the Kishtwar-Batote National Highway, cracks appeared in the walls of the houses, and roofs and walls started falling down due to mudslides. Officials say that experts have been sent to the village to investigate the cause of the landslide. Doda Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Mahajan said, “We are taking all necessary steps to ensure the safety of the people.”
19 families were shifted
Officials said that so far 19 families have been shifted to a safer place after the crack. A mosque and a madrasa have also been declared unsafe in the village. Cracks started appearing in some houses in the village two months ago, but Thursday’s landslide worsened the situation, bringing the number of damaged buildings to nearly two dozen.
After getting the information, the Deputy Commissioner and Senior Superintendent of Police visited the village and assured all possible help to the affected families. Some families have moved to a temporary shelter of the district administration, while many others have shifted with their relatives or kin.
DM said – difficult to escape
Doda’s DM Athar Amin Zargar told on Friday (February 2) that cracks were reported in a house in December. Till yesterday there were cracks in 6 buildings, but now these cracks are increasing, this area is going downwards, it is difficult to escape. The government is trying to stop it here.

A woman from the village told that she has been living here for 15 years but this is the first time she has been seen. There is an atmosphere of panic in more than 50 families of the village. He told that after Thursday’s landslide, cracks appeared in most of the houses. A person from the village told that the new settlement was established about two decades ago and no such problem was seen here before.
