Some similar reason was also seen in Joshimath where the people are still troubled by the subsidence of the land and the bursting of the walls of the houses.
Dr. Swapnamita Chowdhary, senior geologist at the Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, says, the Dhauliganga and Alaknanda rivers are continuously eroding from below in the Vishnuprayag region of Uttarakhand. Actually, the slope of Joshimath starts from Vishnuprayag itself and along with Kedarnath disaster in 2013, Raini disaster of 2021 and Chamoli accident of 2022 and cloudburst in Pandukeshwar of Badrinath region is also a major reason for land subsidence in Joshimath.
Joshimath is not situated on solid ground
The second biggest reason being told behind the collapse of Joshimath is that this city is actually not settled on solid ground. It is said that this city is built on the debris brought by the glacier. That is, the land below the Joshimath city is a landslide material, which is now sinking and because of this the land is bursting there and cracks are appearing in the walls of the houses.
