Foreign affairs expert Michael Kugelman has compared the deteriorating diplomatic relations between Canada and India with that of Pakistan. He says that the attitude adopted by both the countries in recent times has reminded the tense relations between India and Pakistan. He said that at present the relations between Canada and India have reached the lowest level and this is exactly the situation as is between India and Pakistan.
Michael Kugelman is the director of the South Asia Institute at the Wilson Center. He said that the way Canada and India have made statements towards each other in recent times and have ordered diplomats to leave the country, shows how bad the relations between the two countries have become. p>
Michael Kugelman said that whether it is the matter of sending back diplomats, making serious allegations or the use of sharp language in government statements, all this is a situation similar to the sour relations between Pakistan and India. He said that India says that the Canadian government is giving shelter to anti-India terrorists in its country. India also makes such allegations against Pakistan and we have been hearing this. He has termed the Canadian government’s comments regarding India’s internal affairs as wrong. He says that Canada’s internal politics has increased the diplomatic dispute between the two countries.
Michael Kugelman said that the statements made by Justin Trudeau regarding India’s farmers’ movement are wrong because no Prime Minister is expected to speak on the internal affairs of another country.
Canada has been continuously alleging the involvement of Indian officials in the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. On Monday, he ordered 6 diplomats including Indian High Commissioner Sanjeev Verma to leave the country. On this, the Government of India also took strict action and ordered 6 Kanai diplomats to return to their country. India has completely rejected all the allegations of Canada and said that it is talking nonsense about India for political gains.
