Kaal Bhairav Jayanti 2024: Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha of every month is dedicated to Lord Kaal Bhairav. Kaal Bhairav is worshiped on this day, but Ashtami of Krishna Paksha of Margashirsha month has special significance. Lord Kaal Bhairav was incarnated on this day.
In the scriptures, Kaal Bhairav is considered to be the form of Lord Shiva, but he is also called the Kotwal of Kashi. For his devotees, Bhairav is a kind, benevolent and quick to please god, while for those who do wrong, he is a punisher.
Let us now know the classical aspects on Kaal-Bhairav and Kaal-Bhairav Jayanti. According to Shiv Purana Shatrudra Samhita 8.2 (Bhairavah Purnarupo hi Shankarasya Paratmanah), Kaal-Bhairav ji is the complete form of God Shankar, foolish people fascinated by the illusion of Shiva are unable to know him.
You find mention of Kaal-Bhairav Jayanti in Shiv Puran Shatrudra Samhita 9.30: –
Krishnashtamyan tu margasya maasya parameshwarah. आविर्बभूव सलिलो भारवात्मा सातन प्रियः॥ 63
Meaning: – The one who performs beautiful activities, the beloved of the gentlemen, Lord Shiva appeared on the Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha of Margashirsha month. It is mentioned in the next verse that, the person who fasts and awakens in the company of Kaal-Bhairav on the eighth day of Krishna Paksha of Margashirsha month, becomes free from great sins.
The person who observes this fast along with devotional vigil elsewhere, will be freed from great sins and will attain salvation. All the sins committed by a living being in lakhs of births get vanished by seeing Kaalbhairav. The one who commits crimes against the devotees of Kalabhairava, becomes a fool and keeps on suffering again and again. Even a person who is in prison or is in dire straits can get rid of his sins by worshiping Bhairav.
It is mandatory for the people living in Kashi to perform puja on this day because according to Shiv Purana Shatrudra Samhitayan 1.70: –
Kaalrajan na yah kaashyam pratibhutaashtamikujam. Bhajettasya kshayaam punyaam krishnapaksha yatha shashi.
Meaning: – One who does not worship Kalraj (Kaalbhairav) living in Kashi on Tuesday, Chaturdashi and Ashtami, his virtue diminishes like the moon of Krishna Paksha.
According to Shiv Purana Shatrudra Samhitayan 9.5, as soon as Kaal-Bhairav of fierce form entered that area, Brahmahatya immediately went to the underworld with a howl.
Meaning of the word Bhairav: –
Bhaya sarvam ravayati sarvado vyapko’khile. Iti Bhairavashabdsya Santatochcharanachhivah ॥ 130 ॥(Vigyanbhairav Tantram)
Meaning: – The word ‘Bhairava’ means the one who drives away all fear and terror, who shouts and cries, who gives everything, and who pervades the entire universe. The person who continuously chants the word Bhairava becomes one with Shiva.
Some misconceptions related to Kaal Bhairav: – Many people consume liquor in the name of Lord Kaal-Bhairav. These great people say that because liquor is offered to Lord Kaal-Bhairav, hence we should also consume it. Let us classically refute these Mahatmas by giving 4 examples.
1- I give the first proof from Kali Tantra. It is true that alcohol has been described many times in the Tantras, but the meaning of many words is a mystery and Tantra Vidya is taught through the Guru-disciple tradition, if this was not the case then the meaning would have been distorted. Is. According to Kali Tantra Chapter Number 1 edited by Acharya Rajesh Dixit, the meaning of drinking alcohol is to awaken the Kundalini and raise it up and after piercing the Shat Chakra and taking it to Sahasrar, one should drink the blissful nectar of harmony of Shiva-Shakti again and again.
The nectar of joy that is attained by lifting the Kundalini from the Muladhar Chakra i.e. the earth element and going through the Sahasrara is ‘madyapan’ and drinking such nectar does not lead to rebirth. This proves that drinking alcohol has different meanings in different systems.
2- I am giving the second proof from Harit Smriti from where it is mentioned that humans should not do the ritualistic activities of God: –
Anushthitam tu yaddevairmunibhiryadanushthitam. Nanushteyam manushyaistattduktam karma acharet ॥
(green memory)
Meaning: Whatever rituals were performed by the gods and sages, they should not be performed by humans.
3- I am giving the third proof from Mahabharata where Lord Shiva personally tells Parvati about the condemnation and punishment of those who drink alcohol. According to Mahabharata Anusandhan Parva Chapter Number 145, Lord Shiva says, “O Parvati, now I tell you the evils of drinking alcohol. People who drink alcohol laugh at each other while drunk, talk nonsense, dance with so much joy and do good things. -Sings bad songs.
They quarrel among themselves and beat each other as per their wish. Sometimes they suddenly run, sometimes they stumble and fall. Wherever they start speaking inappropriate things and sometimes they become naked and unconscious while beating their hands and legs. Those who drink intoxicating liquor are sinners. Drinking alcohol destroys a person’s patience, modesty and intelligence. Due to this people become shameless and shameless.
A person who drinks alcohol becomes guilty of sin by losing his mind, losing knowledge of duties and non-duties, acting as per his wish and not obeying the orders of scholars. A man who drinks alcohol is disgraced in the world. Those who drink alcohol create divisions among their friends, eat everything and remain impure all the time.
He himself gets destroyed in every way and quarrels with learned and wise men. He keeps speaking very harsh, bitter and terrible words. In a drunken state, he talks seductively to his teachers, rapes other women, sits and consults with swindlers and gamblers, and never even listens to anything beneficial said by anyone. Thus, the person who drinks alcohol has many faults.
They only go to hell. That is why virtuous people who want their own interests have completely given up drinking alcohol. If a good man does not stop drinking alcohol to protect his moral conduct, then this entire world will become devoid of dignity and indolent (this is a great sin related to the body). Therefore, great men should give up drinking to protect their intellect.”
This proves that Lord Shiva himself is opposing drug addiction. Many people will also deny what Shiv Ji said in ‘Mahabharata’ and will talk based on logic.
4 – Let us then logically ask you that Lord Shiva had also consumed poison, so will you also consume poison? No, right? Then stop drinking alcohol in the name of Lord Shiva or Bhairava. If you want to drink alcohol then that is your personal choice.
