West Bengal Rail Accident: The Chief Minister of the state Mamata Banerjee met the passengers injured in the railway accident in New Jalpaiguri, West Bengal. CM Mamata Banerjee reached North Bengal Medical College in Siliguri and met the injured and enquired about their condition. Along with this, she also attacked the central government.
After meeting the injured, CM Mamata Banerjee said that since the accident happened in the morning, I have been monitoring the situation through my Chief Secretary and other officials. All efforts have been made to help the injured and start rescue operations. After reaching the hospital, I have met the patients. We have told the local MLA to go to the spot and do whatever is needed. We completed the entire rescue in just two to three hours.
Mamta Banerjee attacks the central government
Apart from this, she said, “When I was the Railway Minister, I saw 2-3 major train accidents. After that I ensured that anti-collision devices were prepared after which train collisions stopped. No one knows what is happening in the railways today. There are many issues in the Railway Ministry. Separate railway budget has been stopped and this department is not getting enough importance now. I know everything about the railways, nothing new has been done.”
Railways announced compensation
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has announced financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh each for the families of those who lost their lives in the accident. Apart from this, financial assistance of Rs 2.5 lakh each has been announced for the seriously injured passengers and Rs 50,000 each for the minor injured passengers. A freight train hit the Kanchenjunga Express from behind at around 9 am on Monday in New Jalpaiguri, West Bengal. This accident happened near Rangapani station.
