Kane Williamson: Kane Williamson scored a century on the very first day of the first Test being played against South Africa at the Bay Oval. With this century, he left behind Indian cricket team’s star batsman Virat Kohli. By the end of the match, Williamson had scored 112* runs. With this century, the Kiwi batsman has overtaken not only Virat Kohli but also former Australian batsman Sir Don Bradman.
In fact, the century scored against South Africa was Williamson’s 30th century in his Test career. Whereas Virat Kohli has scored 29 centuries in his Test career so far. Apart from this, former Australian legend Sir Don Bradman also scored 29 Test centuries in his career. With this century, Williamson has equaled Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Matthew Hayden and Joe Root.
Ricky Ponting’s record broken
Williamson has become the fourth batsman to score 30 centuries in the shortest innings of Test. In this matter he has left behind former Australian captain Ricky Ponting. Ponting scored his 30th century in his 170th Test innings. Whereas, Williamson scored his 30th century in his 169th Test innings. Former Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar tops the list, having scored his 30th Test century in 159 innings.
New Zealand in a strong position on the first day against South Africa
In the first Test of the two-match series, South Africa won the toss and decided to bowl. New Zealand, who came to bat first, had put 258/2 runs on the board by the end of the first day. During this, Rachin Ravindra is present at the crease after scoring 118* and Kane Williamson 112*. The team lost two wickets in the form of Devon Conway (01) and Tom Latham (20).
