After about one and a half years, a leopard was again seen in IIT on Friday night. This has caused panic among the students. When the security guard of the institute saw it in the camera, he informed the higher authorities. The IIT administration has increased the security arrangements by issuing instructions to the students to be vigilant. Earlier on January 22, 2022, police personnel posted in PRV van had seen a leopard walking on the banks of the canal in Panki.

On Friday night, a leopard was seen walking in the dark of night near the under-construction Gangwal School of Medical Science and Technology inside the IIT campus. Despite the darkness, its movement was captured in the CCTV camera installed nearby. After confirmation of the leopard sighting, IIT asked the people living there not to go out alone in the dark of night and to be cautious and informed the forest department. People say that this could be the same leopard that came one and a half years ago. In-charge District Forest Officer AK Dwivedi said that the IIT administration had reported the sighting of a leopard. When the team was sent there, some pug marks were found on the banks of the drain. Although the marks are not very clear, it is not possible to say anything about the leopard on the basis of these.

The leopard used to roam from IIT to NSI and Gun Factory

The leopard was first seen in VSSD College, Nawabganj in November 2021. After this, the leopard was seen several times at night in Ganga Barrage, National Sugar Institute, IIT and then in the Ordnance Factory campus.
