Karan Johar on Bollywood crisis: Bollywood has been going through a bad phase for the last few years. Even the biggest superstars and high budget films are not stopping from flopping at the box office. In such a situation, film maker Karan Johar has spoken openly on this matter. He has said that there are only a few fake actors in the industry. Apart from this, he has claimed that the taste of the audience has changed now.
In an interview given to Faye D’Souza’s YouTube channel, Karan Johar gave his reaction on the bad condition of Hindi films. He said – ‘First of all, the taste of the audience has become very limited. They want a particular kind of cinema and if you want to work in a limited number, then your film will have to perform at A, B and C centers. Multiplexes alone will not be enough.’
‘There are only 10 useful actors and they too…’
Karan Johar further expressed his opinion on the increasing budget of films and the demands of stars. He said- ‘The budget of film making has increased, inflation has increased. There are only about 10% actors in Hindi cinema, and they too are demanding the sun, moon and earth. So, you pay them, then you pay for the film and then there is the marketing cost and then your film is not able to bring good numbers.’
Such a reaction was given on the fees of the stars
Karan did not stop here, he further said about the fees of the stars- ‘The film stars who are asking for Rs 35 crores are opening at Rs 3.5 crores. How is this maths working? How do you manage all this? The film maker further says that in the case of Hindi cinema, every decade has had a different kind of syntax.’
Said this about ‘Jawan’-‘Pathan’
He said, ‘Now we are like if Jawaan and Pathan worked, should we only do action? Then everyone is running around like this. Then suddenly a love story will work. I feel like we are running around like headless chickens. Conviction has gone bad and all this is herd mentality.’
Karan Johar further says that the industry is not able to understand that now a certain audience group wants Indian cinema that is rooted in roots and pure enjoyment.
