Long dispute between Maharashtra and Karnataka

There is a dispute between Karnataka and Maharashtra regarding the border since a long time. Belgaum (Belagavi) district of Maharashtra was formed in 1960 and since then there is a dispute with Karnataka over 80 per cent Marathi speaking villages.

CM Bommai of Karnataka has staked his claim on 40 villages of Jat taluka of Sangli district falling in the state of Maharashtra, where the number of Kannada speakers is high. For this reason, CM Bommai of Karnataka claimed that they want to join Karnataka. Maharashtra’s Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis has also given a strong reaction regarding this matter. He said that not a single village will be allowed to go.
