Highcourt Slams Center Government on Account Blocking: The Karnataka High Court on Monday asked the Central Government the reason for the 39 Twitter accounts banned last year. Along with this, the court asked the High Court and social media company Twitter to tell how and when a post or account is banned. In fact, on Monday, the Karnataka High Court was hearing a petition by Twitter challenging various orders of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, in which Justice Krishna S. Dixit’s bench asked several questions to the government’s lawyers.

The Karnataka High Court asked the lawyers of the government that what was the reason for which you had to ban these accounts. Also, what is the reason that you did not make public while Section 69A talks about allowing or keeping the reasons for recording public.

The High Court has asked the Central Government to file its reply in the court as to why these accounts were banned. Along with this, the court also said that when the whole world is moving towards transparency, then it is necessary to keep the information public. The court said that if it was related to sovereignty then it could be understood but it is not so. The High Court told the government that first the government asked the company for a meeting and when the reasons were given by the company, the government refused and ordered to ban the account directly. The High Court said whether the company does not have the right to know why you did not agree to the reasons given by them. Now the next hearing in this matter is to be held tomorrow i.e. on Wednesday.

Let me tell you, in June 2022 last year, the social media company Twitter had approached the High Court in this matter.
