Kerala CM formed SIT: The Kerala government has formed a special team to investigate the sexual exploitation of women in the film industry. On Sunday (25 August), the Kerala government took the decision to form this team. Where Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan decided to form an SIT of senior women police officers under the leadership of Sparjan Kumar in a meeting called by senior police officers.

The government has taken cognizance of the revelations of sexual exploitation of women in the Hema Committee report. In fact, recently the Hema Committee report claimed that women are sexually exploited in the Malayalam film industry.

Know which officers were included in the SIT formed by the Kerala Government?

The SIT team constituted by the Kerala government includes S Ajitha Begum (DIG), Merin Joseph (SP Crime Branch Headquarters), G Poonkuzhali (AIG Coastal Police), Aishwarya Donkre (Assistant Director Kerala Police Academy), Ajith V (AIG, Law and Order), and S Madhusudhanan (SP Crime Branch).

Bengali actress had accused the film producer

However, earlier in the day, Malayalam filmmaker Ranjith resigned from the post of Kerala Chalachitra Academy chairman following allegations of misbehavior leveled against him by a Bengali actress. In fact, the Bengali actress had recently alleged that the filmmaker misbehaved with her when she came to shoot a film directed by him in 2009. The filmmaker has rejected the actor’s allegations and claimed that he is the “real victim” in the case.

Know what the Hema Committee report says?

The development comes after the Justice K Hema Committee recorded explosive accounts of harassment, exploitation and abuse of women professionals in the film industry in its report, alleging that a “criminal gang” was controlling the industry where women were being pushed out.

The 233-page report, perhaps the first such report for any film industry in India, details the nexus of power in the Malayalam cinema industry and highlights the various levels of exploitation faced by women in it. Following the 2017 assault case on an actress involving actor Dileep, the Kerala government appointed a panel to study issues of sexual harassment and gender inequality.
