Khichdi 2 Failure: The comedy show ‘Khichdi’ which came in 2002 got a lot of love from the audience. Characters like Hansa, Babuji, Prafulla, Khichdi, Jayshree remained in the hearts of decades. In the year 2010, the film ‘Khichdi’ of this franchise was released and it was also highly appreciated by the audience. But when ‘Khichdi 2’: Mission Panthukistan was released in 2023, the audience turned away from it and the film flopped at the box office.
The film’s director, maker and actor Jamnadas Majethia has expressed his grief over the flop of ‘Khichdi 2’. He has told how his film failed at the box office due to piracy. Talking to India Today, Majethia said- ‘People did not want to wait to go to theaters to watch the film. Everyone downloaded it and watched it from the comfort of their homes.
‘We worked very hard…’
The ‘Khichdi 2’ director further said- ‘I was surprised to see the number of messages I received from everyone. However, by then it was too late. To be honest, I was really disappointed because we had worked very hard, especially on the songs and important scenes. He said that a product like Khichdi never fails. His film also did good business. But unfortunately they could not touch the financial data they were expecting.
Did the World Cup final cause damage to the film?
Majethia further said that he feels that people are liking Khichdi on the small screen. In such a situation, it probably won’t fit on the big screen. Apart from this, the director said that he did not want to release ‘Khichdi 2’ along with Tiger 3 on Diwali. He said- ‘Sunday is the biggest day for films, but that day was the World Cup final and India was playing. It was a risk and sadly it didn’t pay off.
