Wheat Procurement:: Every year the government purchases wheat. This year, there is expected to be a good production of wheat in India. The government has given this year’s target for procurement of Rabi crop 2024-25. Which is less as compared to previous years. While giving information about the wheat crop this year, the Agriculture Ministry of India said that its production this year is estimated to be around 114 million tonnes to 115 million tonnes. Those selling on MSP will benefit
The government has set the target for wheat procurement this year. This year the government will purchase wheat worth 3.41 crore tonnes. Whereas according to the information given by the Ministry of Agriculture, the production of wheat this season is estimated to be between 114 million tonnes to 115 million tonnes. In such a situation, farmers have definitely been disappointed by this decision of the government.
The government distributes wheat to the central pool for public distribution at the minimum support price i.e. MSP. This decision of the government will benefit those farmers who will sell wheat at MSP. Talking about MSP, wheat is being purchased at the highest MSP in Madhya Pradesh in India.
This much wheat was purchased last year
In the meeting held by the Agriculture Ministry, it was decided that the states and union territories will focus on diversification of crops and market procurement to increase the amount of nutrition in the diet. If we talk about the last few seasons, the government had purchased 2.62 crore tonnes of wheat in 2023-24. So in 2022-23, 4.44 crore tonnes of wheat was purchased.
