Supreme Court Kolkata Rape Case Hearing: The Supreme Court heard the Kolkata rape-murder case on Tuesday (August 20). The apex court has taken suo motu cognizance of the matter. During the hearing, Chief Justice DY Chandrachud asked sharp questions to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s government. The Chief Justice asked senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing on behalf of the state government, what was the police doing when RG Kar was vandalizing the Medical College and Hospital.   • The Chief Justice said that the Kolkata rape-murder case is a serious matter because it is also related to the safety of health workers. He said that after learning about the crime committed against the female doctor, the former principal of the medical college, Dr. Sandeep Ghosh, called it a suicide. The FIR has also been lodged late.
  • The Supreme Court asked whether the FIR mentioned the murder of the victim. The biggest question is where was the principal when this incident happened, what was he doing. The FIR was filed in the evening and it was called a suicide. However, state government lawyer Kapil Sibal denied this.
  • Regarding the vandalism that took place in the medical college on August 14, the Supreme Court said that what was the police doing when this incident was happening?   • The Supreme Court has asked the Bengal government to submit a report on the vandalism incident at RG Kar Medical College by August 22. The next hearing on this matter will be held on August 22. The task force will have to submit the final report in two months.
