Laapataa Ladies Aamir Khan Auditioned for Ravi Kishan Role but rejected by Ex Wife and Director Kiran Rao


Ladies Ladies: Kiran Rao’s ‘Laapata Ladies’ has been selected as India’s official entry for Oscars 2025. The film is eyeing a nomination in the Best Foreign Film category. The film stars Pratibha Ranta, Nitanshi Goyal, Sparsh Srivastava, Chhaya Kadam and Ravi Kishan in pivotal roles. Mr. Perfectionist also wanted a role in this film produced by Aamir Khan. He also auditioned for the role of Ravi Kishan but was rejected.

Aamir Khan auditioned for ‘Missing Ladies’
In fact, speaking on the ABP Majha programme earlier this year, Aamir Khan had revealed, “The story was really good, and it had a very good character. I thought I would present this story to Kiran, maybe she would like it. I wanted to do a role in the film, and Kiran said, ‘You are a very big star, my film is small, you will disbalance it. I said, ‘At least let me give a screen test, let’s see if I suit the role or not, so I gave a screen test.’

Aamir Khan further said, ‘After giving the screen test, both Kiran and I liked it but we both were afraid that if I came out as a star, people’s expectations would increase. We felt that I should not be in the film under any circumstances.”

After this, the actor suggested to Kiran Rao that he was ready to completely change his appearance like Robert Downey Jr. in Tropic Thunder, but the director refused. Aamir said, “I will change my appearance,” to which Kiran replied, “So what is the benefit.”

The story revolves around two brides
The film revolves around two brides who board the same train but get lost because of their veils. The film is based on the award-winning story by Biplab Goswami. The screenplay and dialogues are written by Sneha Desai, while additional dialogues are written by Divyanidhi Sharma. The film was shot on real locations in Sehore, Madhya Pradesh. Lapata Ladies received a lot of positive reviews. However, its popularity increased after it started streaming on Netflix.

Got a standing ovation at the Toronto International Film Festival
After Dhobi Ghat, Kiran Rao has made a comeback in direction with Missing Ladies. Before its theatrical release, the film was screened at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in 2023. It received a standing ovation from the audience present at the festival. The film was released in India in March this year.
