Oscars 2025: Kiran Rao directed film ‘Missing Ladies’ has been officially entered in Oscars 2025. This was announced by The Film Federation of India at an event held in Chennai. Missing Ladies has been nominated for the Best Foreign Film category for the 97th Academy Awards.

‘Missing Ladies’ is directed by Kiran Rao
‘Laapata Ladies’ was directed by Kiran Rao and produced by Aamir Khan. The film stars Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Srivastava and Nitanshi Goyal. Ravi Kishan and Chhaya Kadam also played important roles in the film. Released earlier this year, the film has achieved a cult status.

‘Missing Ladies’ beats 29 films
29 films including Animal, Hanuman, Kalki 2898 AD, Maharaja, Zoram, Srikanth, Maidan, Sam Bahadur, Aadujeevitham, Article 370 had received applications for nomination for Oscar from India, out of which ‘Missing Ladies’ has been selected for Oscar nomination from India this year.

Kiran Rao’s dream came true
Speaking to PTI last week, Kiran Rao had said, “If it would have gone (to the Oscars), it would have been my dream come true. But it is a process, and I hope it (Missing Ladies) will be considered. I am sure Best Film will go, whoever they choose in the scheme of things.”

What is the story of the missing ladies?
Missing Ladies takes the audience back to rural India in 2001. The story revolves around two brides who get swapped during a train journey. A journey full of ups and downs begins when their husbands start looking for the real bride.

Produced under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions, Missing Ladies marks Kiran Rao’s return to direction after Dhobi Ghat. Prior to its theatrical release, the film was screened at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in 2023, receiving a standing ovation from the audience present at the festival.

Where can I watch it on OTT ‘The Missing Ladies’
‘The Missing Ladies’It was released in theatres on 1 March. The film had a poor start and opened with just 75 lakhs. But then, thanks to positive word of mouth, the film strengthened its hold on the box office. The film collected 17.31 crores in theatres in 50 days. This film is also available on OTT. This film with new actors can be seen on the OTT platform Netflix.
