For information, let us tell you that in the year 1956, Lakshadweep was given the status of Union Territory. Earlier it was known as Laccadive, Minicoy, Amindivi. However, the literacy rate here is 91.82 percent, which is higher than many big cities of India.

History of Lakshadweep

Even at the time of independence in 1947, the Muslim population in Lakshadweep was high. At that time, the first Prime Minister of Pakistan, Liaquat Ali Khan, thought that Lakshadweep had a Muslim population and India had not claimed it, so these people would come to Pakistan. But Sardar Patel had given the responsibility of merger of Lakshadweep to Arcot Ramaswami Mudaliar and Arcot Lakshmanaswami Mudaliar. When the Pakistani army was moving towards Lakshadweep via sea, Sardar Patel had asked the two Mudaliar brothers to hoist the Indian tricolor. Even before the Pakistani warship arrived, the Indian Army reached Lakshadweep and hoisted the flag. Due to which the Pakistanis had to go back. Historians say that if there had been a delay of even half an hour, the matter could have been reversed.
