The national capital witnessed another chilly morning on Sunday as temperatures were recorded in single digits, causing inconvenience to passengers and delaying many flights and trains. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), visibility over Delhi-Palam reduced from 400 meters at 2:00 am on Sunday to 100 meters at 2:30 am and further reduced to 0 meters by 3:00 am. .

According to IMD, the minimum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 8.5 degrees Celsius on Sunday morning. IMD said, ‘At 6:30 am today, fog layer is very clearly visible over the plains of North India from Punjab to Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, North-West Rajasthan and North Madhya Pradesh.’ The Meteorological Department said, ‘Dense to very dense fog was seen in different parts of Delhi, North Haryana, Western Uttar Pradesh, Western Madhya Pradesh.’

About a dozen passenger trains bound for the national capital are also running behind schedule. According to Northern Railway, around 11 trains like Amritsar-Nanded Express, Puri-New Delhi Purushottam Express, Ambedkarnagar-Katra and Manikpur-Nizamuddin Express were delayed due to dense fog. Similarly, at Delhi airport too, people were seen waiting for their flights which were delayed by several hours. Some flights were also declared cancelled, causing inconvenience to passengers.

IMD has predicted very dense fog conditions on January 22. Fog conditions are likely to persist for the remaining days till January 27. As cold wave continues in Delhi, people were seen sitting near bonfires to keep themselves warm. Meanwhile, low visibility was recorded in many parts of North India on Saturday, causing inconvenience to passengers traveling by train and air.
