Kannada Lineman Movie Review: The month of March has brought a lot of entertainment for cinema lovers. In the first week of March, about two dozen films of Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam were released, the second week is also similar. On March 15, the original Telugu film ‘Razakar’ is being discussed a lot. Directed by Yatha Satyanarayana and produced by Guduru Narayana Reddy, ‘Rajakar’ has been released in many southern languages including Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam along with Marathi and Hindi, apart from Telugu. It is based on the Hyderabad massacre. It is being considered the most controversial film after ‘The Kashmir Files’.
Well, if you are interested in comedy amidst a shocking film like Razakar, then director and writer V Raghu Shastri has brought the Kannada film ‘Lineman’ for you. This film can also be seen in Telugu. At present the era of real stick cinema is going on. Movies that tell real stories and give a meaningful message are being liked a lot. ‘Lineman’ is not 100% based on real events, but the director has made a successful attempt to weave some of the truths and incidents around him into the film.
This comedy-drama film of about 2 hours is the story of a village in which, in order to save some lives, people decide to live without electricity. How much help this effort brings to the villagers and how many problems it creates, the fabric of Lineman has been woven amidst these funny situations. The film is made on a satirical genre.
Thrigun A plays the role of a lineman in the film. He was earlier known as Adith Arun. Other actors of the film include Kajal Kunder, B Jayashree and Harini Srikanth. The producers of the film are Yathish Venkatesh and Ganesh Papanna. Music is given by Manikant Qadri. Cinematography is by Shanti Sagar HG.
As far as V Raghu Shastri’s vision is concerned, he first brought the Kannada film Run Antony as a writer-director in 2016. Lineman is his second film. Raghu has been an assistant to famous Bollywood director Anurag Kashyap. He also worked on the Kannada web series Loose Connection. Anurag Kashyap’s influence is visible in Raghu’s films.
Be it Anurag Kashyap’s Black Friday or Gang of Wasseypur…while watching his films, it feels as if the incident happened in our neighborhood. In this film of V Raghu also one can see ‘Anurag’ and respect towards his Guru i.e. Anurag.
You will be shocked and upset just thinking about living without electricity in the present times. From mobile to TV, fridge-fan and all the important things are useless without electricity. ‘Lineman’ gives a meaningful message about how people have become completely dependent on technology and other material things in the race for comforts and luxuries. How humans have turned their priorities in the wrong direction. Raghu Shastri has raised this message very well. The film reminds us of that era when people lived their lives happily without electricity. They did not have equipment or gadgets like mobile-TV at that time, yet they remained happy. Even in the lantern era, people used to cherish their dreams. They used traditional games for entertainment. They used to sit together and chat, share their joys and sorrows…but in the ‘electricity era’ everything was immersed in darkness.
However, if we look at the film, Thrigun has impressed us with his performance in the role of Junior Powerman i.e. Lineman. Regarding Lineman, made under the banner of Purple Rock Entertainment, V Raghu says that the story of the film was written during the lockdown.
Since the story of the film is set in a rural environment, the audience will like the location. Southern cinema is showcasing the rural areas brilliantly. Hindi cinema has also started following this again. This can be called a good initiative to connect the audience with their country and their soil.
Most of the shooting of Lineman has been done by Raghu in Chandakwadi, his hometown Chamaraj Nagar. The film has been appreciated at the Bengaluru Film Festival. The music of the film represents traditional music. The film has also turned out to be good in terms of cinematography. This film is a good option for those who keep thinking about their country and society along with entertainment.
