ECI Action: nationwide Lok Sabha Elections In view of 2024, the Election Commission is continuously issuing instructions to implement the Model Code of Conduct. Meanwhile, on Wednesday (March 20), the Election Commission has ordered the removal of hoardings, banners and posters of all the parties put up to woo voters within 24 hours.
Taking strict action, the Election Commission has asked the states to file implementation reports by Thursday (21 March) evening regarding the instructions to remove unauthorized advertisements from government and private properties. The Election Commission has written a letter to the Cabinet Secretary and the Chief Secretaries of the country, issuing instructions to immediately remove all political advertisements from railway stations to airports, government buses and government buildings.
Action will be taken against Shobha Karandlaje
Taking cognizance of DMK’s complaint against the statement against Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje, the Election Commission also issued instructions to the State Election Commissioner to take appropriate action under the rules. The Central Election Commission asked the State Election Commissioner to take appropriate action as per the rules and inform the Central Election Commission within 48 hours. Shobha Karandlaje had said that people of Tamil Nadu were behind the blast in Rameshwaram Cafe in Bengaluru. There was a lot of political uproar over his statement. However, later Shobha Karandlaje also apologized for her statement.
Government schemes will not get new approval in Himachal Pradesh
The Central Election Commission also issued an order to stop new approvals for government schemes in Himachal Pradesh. The order says, “No new funds should be released or contracts for works should be awarded on welfare schemes and works in any part of the state where elections are going on, without the prior permission of the Commission.” ‘
Earlier on March 19, BJP had filed two complaints against Congress in the State Election Commission for violation of the Model Code of Conduct. It was alleged by the BJP that to woo the voters on behalf of the Congress, forms were being filled to get Rs 1,500 per month under the Indira Gandhi Pyari Brahmin Sukh-Samman Nidhi Yojana.
BJP made serious allegations
Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur along with the BJP delegation lodged two complaints with the Chief Electoral Officer in Shimla. Jai Ram Thakur has accused the state government and the Chief Minister of giving the benefit of honorarium of Rs 1500 to women. He said various government agencies are filling and using the forms for the schemes, which have photographs of Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu and former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
