Lok Sabha Elections 2024 in India Congress and Samajwadi Party seat sharing issue in Uttar Pradesh Akhilesh Yadav Rahul Gandhi


Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Samajwadi Party has announced the names of candidates for 31 out of 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh, but the issue of seat sharing with Congress is still stuck. Actually, many letters have been exchanged between Congress and SP Chief till now. Despite this, the final formula has not been revealed.

Actually, the matter of seat sharing on 80 seats of UP was going on between Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh and Samajwadi Party supremo Akhilesh Yadav. During this time, SP had also released the first list of 16 candidates in the month of January. After the release of this list, a letter was written by Akhilesh Yadav to the Congress Party on 6 February and it was informed that he (SP) has left 11 seats for the Congress.

In response to this, Congress informed the SP Chief that out of 11 seats, only 5 are acceptable to it. And it should be given 20 more seats in UP. From this it was made clear that Congress needs a total of 25 seats in UP as an ‘India Alliance’ ally.

Akhilesh Yadav had asked Congress for details of candidates on 20 seats.

The series of letters did not stop here and continued. On February 12, another letter was sent by Akhilesh Yadav to the Congress President. In this, Samajwadi Party supremo Akhilesh asked Congress to send the names of those 20 seats along with the candidates details on which they are claiming. Congress expressed objection to such a question and also tried to make SP aware that there is a complete process of candidate selection in the Congress Party. Candidates are decided only under this process.

Samajwadi Party informed Congress about pre-elections

After this, on February 19, another letter was written by Samajwadi Party to Congress President Kharge in which a list was given mentioning 17 seats. Samajwadi Party has prepared the list of these seats as per 2014 and 2019. Lok Sabha Elections And while mentioning the UP Assembly elections of 2017, 2022, details of how the party performed were also given. Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge also agreed on these seats, but after this the matter again seemed to be stuck.

Rahul Gandhi expressed Congress’s claim on these seats

Kharge informed the SP Chief on February 19 itself that former Congress President Rahul Gandhi wants Moradabad and Bijnor Lok Sabha seats. The matter got stuck regarding this and SP Chief made it clear that several rounds of talks had taken place with Priyanka Gandhi. After that, Mukul Wasnik took charge of the alliance in his place. After the formula has been decided, then why are such talks happening regarding seats?

Congress-SP’s respective claims on Muslim vote bank

Congress also staked claim on Amroha and Saharanpur Lok Sabha seats, due to which the matter is stuck on these seats. Both Congress and Samajwadi Party are staking their claims on these seats regarding Muslim vote bank. It is believed that some situation may become clear in the coming days.
